When Art Becomes a Sporting Duel

In the Waidspeicher Gallery, on Saturday, November 28, 2026, interactive art meets table tennis and target shooting. At the Galeriathlon, visitors join curator Philipp Schreiner in an unusual dialogue about the exhibition Why so serious?

Table tennis paddles instead of classic tours

The curator tour breaks out of the usual museum framework. The exhibition is explored playfully with table tennis paddles and soft air pistols. Between rallies, target boards, and spontaneous duels, conversations arise about humor in art, high and pop culture, and the boundaries of the art world.

Sporting excitement in the cultural courtyard

The Galeriathlon combines the thrill of competition with the exhibition experience. Losing a table tennis game or having less luck in target shooting is just as much a part of the concept as the stimulating exchange about the exhibited works. The atmosphere remains open, interactive, and approachable.

Why so serious? invites participation

The exhibition deliberately focuses on participation. In addition to the ceramic table tennis table, a video game, a bouncy castle, origami doves, and a shooting gallery are part of the interactive elements. The works encourage experiencing art playfully rather than just viewing it.

Conclusion: Experience, Play, and Discuss Art

The Galeriathlon promises an unusual afternoon of sporting competition and contemporary art discourse. Those who wish to discover art from a new perspective and become active themselves will experience a format with a special stadium atmosphere in the Waidspeicher Gallery.
