Winter Lights 2026: Light Magic in egapark Erfurt
When darkness falls over Erfurt, the winter egapark transforms into a walkable light landscape from November 28, 2026, to January 3, 2027. Winter Lights combines a festive atmosphere, light art, and winter strolls into a special multi-day experience for families, groups of friends, and anyone who wants to celebrate Advent with illuminated images.
Three Kilometers Full of Light Art
The circular route leads from the main entrance across the large meadow past the Danakil, further to the rose garden and the German Garden Museum. Along the approximately three-kilometer-long route, visitors will find glowing sculptures, imaginative light figures, and colorfully staged park areas. Visitors should plan at least 45 minutes for the tour.
Water Fountain, Observation Tower, and Winter Scenes
One of the most impressive stations is a ten-meter-high water fountain onto which video projections are played. The observation tower is also brightly illuminated and provides a striking visual highlight in the festival grounds. Between trees, beds, and historic park areas, an atmospheric blend of open-air light art and winter walk emerges.
Advent Atmosphere at the Danakil
In front of the Danakil, Christmas stalls enhance the experience with food and drinks. Between light installations and illuminated landscapes, a relaxed camping atmosphere is created without a campsite: a shared mulled wine, warm snacks, and short breaks are part of the winter community feel for many guests.
Opening Hours and Admission
Winter Lights opens Thursdays to Sundays from 5 PM, daily during the holidays. Sunday to Thursday, the evening ends at 8 PM, and on Fridays and Saturdays at 9 PM. The last admission is 45 minutes before the end of the event. The park is closed on December 24 and 31.
Admission costs 10 Euros for adults aged 18 and over, and 5 Euros for children and teenagers aged 4 to 17. Children under 3 years visit Winter Lights free of charge. Owners of an egapark annual pass receive a 1 Euro discount; however, the annual pass does not serve as a ticket for the special event.
Conclusion: A Bright Winter Evening in Erfurt
Winter Lights turns egapark into a winter stage for light, color, and shared discoveries. Visitors can expect an atmospheric walk with spectacular projections, illuminated park backdrops, and culinary breaks. Anyone wishing to experience Erfurt in Advent from a new perspective should discover this light art experience live.
