When Paper Pointedly Looks Back: Ulf Annel's Satirical Collages in Erfurt

From October 27, 2026, to January 15, 2027, the Library Berliner Platz in Erfurt presents the exhibition "Outsider - Humorous and Satirical Collages" by Ulf Annel. The cabaret artist, journalist, and author transforms found images into surprising compositions that connect art history, politics, and everyday observations with sharp wit.

Collage as a Mental Short Circuit

Ulf Annel works with the principle of conceptual displacement. His collages set image fragments, wordplay, and cultural references in new relationships. Familiar motifs create image ideas with a double bottom: humorous at first glance, thought-provoking upon closer inspection.

Satire between Art History and the Present

The exhibition leads into an art direction that uses cutting, combining, and overlapping as an independent artistic language. Annel's works address trivializations of art history as well as biting comments on political everyday life. The aesthetics of the collage intertwine with the dramaturgy of cabaret.

An Artistic Experience with Aha-Effect

The atmosphere of the exhibition thrives on contrasts: familiar forms meet unexpected connections, seemingly innocuous images tip into subtle irony, and precisely placed details open the view to societal contradictions. This aesthetic experience makes the presentation particularly accessible for visitors who wish to connect art, literature, and political cabaret.

An Erfurt Artist with Extensive Exhibition Experience

Ulf Annel is a member of the Association of Visual Artists Thuringia and has exhibited his collages in numerous solo and group exhibitions since the 1980s. Publications in Eulenspiegel, in the New Thuringian Illustrated, and in cabaret program booklets are part of his artistic environment. Art critiques have recognized his works as superficially humorous, profound, and astonishingly imaginative.

Conclusion: Discover Satirical Images Live

"Outsider" promises an exhibition in which humor becomes a method of insight. Visitors can expect a wittily curated examination of visual humor, social observation, and the creative power of materials. Anyone who enjoys starting art with a smile and ending with new questions should not miss this artistic experience at the Library Berliner Platz.
