Experience Historical Washing Up Close!

Washing Like 150 Years Ago is an exciting student project at the Museum of Thuringian Folklife in Erfurt that introduces children and young people to historical washing methods. Participants have the opportunity to experience traditional techniques firsthand and try them out themselves.

Experiences from the Past

During the project, old methods of laundry washing are explained in an illustrative manner. An engaged team conveys the historical backgrounds and practical instructions. The students learn how difficult and time-consuming washing was back then and how it shaped the everyday lives of people.

A Practical Adventure

After a brief introduction, the practical part begins, where the group can use traditional tools such as washboards and soaps made from natural materials to get hands-on experience. This interactive experience aims not only to impart knowledge but also to sharpen awareness of the historical context.

Booking and Participation

This offer is mainly aimed at school groups and is only bookable in advance. In addition to educational content, there is an opportunity to share experiences from a long-past era.
